Eastern Cape police have arrested a fourth suspect in another major breakthrough in the University Fort Hare fraud case, which involves multimillion rand fraud, money laundering, and corruption.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Avele Fumba says 46-year-old Craig Retief was arrested this week and appeared in the Alice Magistrates Court in Dikeni yesterday.
He says Retief joined his co-accused, Claudine Davids and Simbongile Geqeza, who were all granted bail of R10 000.
The fourth suspect, the former Head of Investigation and Vetting, Isaac Plaatjies, was arrested in 2023 and remains in custody, as additional charges have now been added against him.
The case has been transferred to the East London Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where the accused will appear again on May 23rd.
