A Gqeberba bush dweller who allegedly raped a Gauteng businesswoman in 2010, did an about-turn when he abandoned his bid for bail in the city's Magistrates Court on Monday.
The accused, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, was arrested for the rape of Andy Kawa, more than 13 years after the offence had taken place.
Police said DNA evidence linked the accused to the case.
During the court appearance, no reasons were given for why the accused had decided to abandon bail.
He was seen limping into the dock when he made his way from the police holding cells.
The defence asked the court's assistance in making sure that the accused sees a doctor at the St. Albans Correctional Centre on Monday.
The court heard that his injured leg and his reasons for seeing a doctor were not linked to the Kawa matter.
It was due to an injury he had sustained elsewhere.

Magistrate Dumisani Apollos commended the investigating officer for making sure that all outstanding documentation required for the bail application was verified speedily.
During a previous court appearance, the State indicated that they would oppose bail.
Apollos also said he was pleased that the case is moving speedily.
The case was remanded for further instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and the final confirmation of the DNA-results.
The now 60-year-old Kawa was abducted while walking along Kings Beach in Summerstrand on 9 December 2010.
She was held hostage, and raped for 15 hours before she managed to escape from her abductors the next day.
The accused will appear in court again on 27 March.
