ANC task team committed to turning around Nelson Mandela Bay

The ANC Regional Task Team which was assigned to Nelson Mandela Bay says it remains committed addressing the service delivery shortcomings in Ward 30.

The ANC is smarting after losing the ward to the United Democratic Movement in a by-election on Wednesday.

Ward 30 covers Veeplaas and Kwamagxaki in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The full statement follows below:

The RTT thanks all the residents of Ward 30 who voted for the ANC in the recent By-elections in Veeplaas and KwaMagxaki on Wednesday 19 August and gave us an overall 41%.

In particular we would like to acknowledge the 57% votes we received from residents at the Rabe Street, Veeplaas Voting District station and the 54.5% votes for ANC at the Veeplaas Community Hall Voting district.

This is a significant statement by the residents of Veeplaas and we will continue to interact with the community in the Ward. We thank you for the confidence you continue to place in our efforts to address the backlogs and service delivery challenges which exist in the Nelson Mandela Bay Region. We repeat our undertaking that we are committed to addressing the shortcomings in your area.
We fully acknowledge that there is a deficit of trust that the ANC will deliver on its promises, and that this has contributed to the shift of support in the Ward.

Congratulations to the new councillor, Mandla Faltein.

The RTT would like to restate that we are aware of the dysfunctionality that existed in the region and that this is the reason for the previous ANC structures being dissolved and a new structure being established. ANC is making every effort to correct the situation and the new Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan and his Mayoral team have already displayed their determination to urgently improve on service delivery in the region.

The Mayoral team has acted decisively on many long, lingering challenges that have been unresolved for years. We do not doubt that the Mayoral team will address the various priorities that have been identified.

The RTT has just recently reviewed its current status and operations and concluded that we have correctly identified the rebuilding and reactivation of ANC branches as the priority in this period. It must be noted that some of the ANC branches in this region are not fully functional, but this is being addressed through the intensive branch work and door to door visits across the Metro. The
Programme aims to re-establish the ANC’s presence in all 60 wards in the region.

The ANC remains committed to serving all residents in the region and forging unity to preserve our hard-won freedom and democracy. The ANC remains committed to its project of creating conditions for a better life for all our people.
