Albertinia man pleads not guilty to murder of two little girls

Jacorene Vaaltyn and Sharon Aries

File

The trial of 54-year-old Timothy Ova, who is accused of murdering two little girls, nine-year-old Jacorene Vaaltyn and 10-year-old Sharon Arries from Albertinia, started in the Circuit High Court in George on Monday.

Ova faces two charges of murder, one of obstruction of justice, one of the illegal possession of ammunition and one charge of indecent assault related to a separate incident in Cape Town in 1999.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

Ova was arrested on 23 September 2022, after the bodies of the two children were found in his home on Jan Fiskaal Street.

They were reported missing by their families the day before.

The body of one victim was found in a hole under a bed and the other was found outside in a blue plastic drum wrapped in sheets.

Authorities said the girls died of suffocation and were probably killed simultaneously.

Ova has been in custody since his arrest and his trial, which has about 30 witnesses, is set down for the next three weeks.
