Eastern Cape police arrested a 48-year-old bus driver after they found suspected stolen property as well as abalone worth over R2m in his bus on Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said the K9 unit in Komani received a tip-off that suspected stolen cell phone tower batteries were on the bus which was travelling from East London and going to Zimbabwe.
She said the bus was intercepted in the Komani CBD and searched by police.
Mgolodela said officers found five solar batteries worth R25 000, six solar panels worth R12 000, four tower batteries worth R160 000, inverters worth R200 000, and 26 boxes of abalone worth more than R2 million.
She also said ten boxes of medication were found during the search.
Mgolodela said the bus driver is expected to appear in court in Komani on Tuesday.
