Three suspects are in custody and face charges of conspiracy to commit abalone poaching.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says they were apprehended in Walmer Boulevard on Wednesday morning by Gqeberha Flying Squad members who had assisted a private anti-poaching unit.
She says they chased down a VW Polo whose occupants were suspected of abalone poaching in the vicinity of Noordhoek.
The members then returned to Noordhoek and with the assistance of a diver from the anti-poaching unit, 198 shucked abalone and nine shelled abalone were confiscated.
The three men aged 30 to 33 were detained under the Marine Living Resource Act and will appear in court soon.
