The Princess of Wales is facing up to two weeks in hospital after undergoing successful abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace announced on Wednesday.

The 42-year-old wife of William, Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne, was admitted to a private clinic in central London on Tuesday.

Kensington Palace said Princess Kate wants to maintain as much normality for her children during this time and expressed her wish for her personal medical information to remain private.

She is only expected to be back doing her Royal duties after Easter.

King Charles

Meanwhile British head of state King Charles III will attend a hospital next week for a corrective procedure to treat an enlarged prostate.

According to Buckingham Palace, the condition is benign but the 75-year-old King's public engagements will be postponed while he recuperates.

Charles became king upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.

He is the oldest person to become Britain's monarch, having been the longest-serving heir apparent.
