LONDON, September 15 (Sputnik) – Met Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said Friday that the UK police were making “excellent progress” in the investigation of the explosion that had hit London’s Parsons Green tube station earlier in the day.
“We are making excellent progress at the moment … [working in order] to identify, to locate and to arrest those responsible. This is a very complex investigation … We have hundreds of police officers trawling through CCTV footage,” Rowley said, as broadcast by Sky News.
He added that the remains of the explosive device had been transported to the laboratory for a detailed forensic examination.
Rowley also said that he had requested military servicemen’ assistance, freeing up extra police resources for other tasks.
Earlier in the day, the explosion hit the Parsons Green tube station. London police said they regarded the blast as a “terrorist incident.” The National Health Service (NHS) England said that at least 29 people were hospitalized after the explosion.
The Islamic State terror group (banned in Russia) reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
The United Kingdom has faced a number of terror attacks in 2017, such as the attack on Westminster Bridge and in the Parliament grounds in London in March, a bombing during a concert in Manchester in May, and the London Bridge attack in June.
