The former DA Activist Nontuthuzelo Jack, accused of defaming the former Mayor Athol Trollip was found guilty on Friday in the PE Magistrates court on both charges levelled against her.
The 47-year-old Jack claimed that Trollip offered her a bribe to "dig up dirt" on the former DA provincial chairwoman Veliswa Mvenya.
Jack made the claims to a newspaper and they were published in the run-up to the 2016 local government elections.
Following Jack’s statement, Trollip laid a complaint of crimen injuria against her, which resulted in a long and dragged out court case.
She was found guilty on a charge of defamation and crimen Injuria.
Trollip shared his thoughts on Twitter, shortly after the Judgment saying that the truth always prevails.
The alleged offence was committed at a time when the party was campaigning and identifying its candidates for the party and public positions.
The charge sheet states that both Jack and Trollip aspired to hold such positions.
According to court documents, Jack also deposed an affidavit containing false accusations and forwarded it to DA federal executive chairman MP James Selfe.
