Two South Africans who tested positive for the coronavirus on a cruise ship in Japan are receiving the necessary treatment.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, as well as the Department of Health, are in constant contact with these two individuals, who are in good care.
The NICD confirmed that to date there has not been a single case of the COVID-19 in South Africa.
It said as of the 28th of February 133 persons have been tested of whom 89 met the case definition.
Nigeria has, however, become the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to register a case of the Coronavirus.
Lagos state commissioner for health, Akin Abayomi, says the patient is an Italian citizen from Milan who arrived in Nigeria earlier this week for a business visit.
The NICD has also welcomed the decision by President Cyril Ramaphosa to repatriate SA citizens from Wuhan city and will give their full support and collaboration with the necessary government departments.
