A group of 29 musicians from South Africa, including four from Port Elizabeth has launched a social media campaign in a desperate attempt to be repatriated back home from Turkey.

The young performers had separately arrived in the town of Antalya since last year to work for different musical productions which were soon halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the musicians stranded in the country, 24-year-old Ntlantla Swana told Algoa FM News that they might be homeless by next week.

She said the company which hired them on a contractual basis announced that it had run out of funds and would no longer be able to pay for their accommodation and food.

Another performer, Lesedi Dipheko said they launched the campaign not only to draw attention to their need for returning home but also to survive as they were running out of food.

She said they had set up a fund in all their media platforms pleading for public assistance.

Dipheko added that they had requested help from the South African Embassy to Turkey, but received unsatisfactory responses.
