The International Relations Department says it will help the family of a Pretoria man who was killed during a hostage drama at a Mali hotel with repatriating his remains.
Roelof Janse van Rensburg also known among his friends as Jaco died after gunmen stormed the building on Friday morning.
He was with two other South Africans who went to the country for a United Nationas peace keeping mission.
Van Rensburg worked for an aviation company.
Two other South Africans managed to escape the attack unharmed.
The death toll now stands at 12.
The department's Nelson Kgwete said, “The South African government will liaise with Malian authorities to ensure that all procedures are complied with so that if the family wishes to repatriate the body, the South African government will be able to facilitate the process.”
