HARARE, August (ANA) - At least one person was shot dead in Harare as armed forces opened fire with live ammunition at MDC Alliance supporters who were protesting over electoral results in Harare on Wednesday.
The slain citizen was shot near Zanu PF Harare provincial offices, although police could not confirm this, and several more were left nursing injuries due to gun attacks.
MDC Alliance supporters took to the streets on Wednesday afternoon amid a delay in the release of the results of the presidential election.
The Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (Zec) says the presidential results will no longer be announced on Wednesday, as there are still processes being followed to allow candidates to verify the results.
The opposition accuses Zec and Zanu PF of colluding to avert the will of the people.
With results for three parliamentary constituencies left, President Emmerson Mnangagwa's Zanu PF has bagged 144 of the 210 seats; while opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance got 61, with two others going to the National Patriotic Front, and independent candidates respectively.
