Namibia's president Dr. Hage G. Geingob passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 82-year-old was receiving treatment at the Lady Pohamba Hospital when he died shortly after midnight with his wife and children by his side.
The country's Acting President Dr Nangolo Mbumba said the Namibian nation lost a distinguished servant of the people, a liberation struggle icon, and the chief architect of their constitution
He asked Namibians to remain calm and collected while the Government attends to all the necessary state arrangements and protocols.
"While keeping the President’s bereaved family, and you, dear fellow Namibians, in our thoughts and prayers, Cabinet will convene with immediate effect to make the necessary state arrangements in this regard," said Mbumba
