A Young man from Texas in the USA was spared a prison sentence after a selfie exonerated him by proving his innocence.
The 21-year-old Christopher Precopia was arrested on the 22nd of September 2017 after his ex-girlfriend accused him of assault.
In oral and written statements to police, his accuser detailed how the accused had forced his way into her home, pushing her to the ground before punching her in the face and slicing her with the box-cutter.
Precopia, who had no idea what was happening, spent a day in prison until his family managed to post his $150,000 bond.
It was then that his mother realised that she might be able to prove her son's innocence, a selfie taken at the time of the alleged attack.
The accuser had told police that she was attacked by Precopia at 7:20 p.m in her home but the selfie taken by Precopia showed that he was nearly 100km away.
Police have not yet arrested the ex-girlfriend for making a false statement to police and Precopia's family is still considering whether or not to launch a civil claim against her.
