Liz Truss has resigned as Prime Minister of the UK - just 45 days after replacing Boris Johnson in office.
Sky News reports that there will be a leadership election to replace her within a week.
In her resignation speech, Truss said she cannot deliver on the mandate on which she was elected.
Only last week, her Conservative government was forced to make a dramatic about-turn on its proposed new tax laws which tanked markets.
Having been formally appointed by Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 6, Truss is now the shortest-serving prime minister in British history.
