Hundreds of Palestinian civilians were killed following a massive strike at Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday.
The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) blamed the Palestinian Islamic Jihad for the rocket, which they say was aimed at Israel, but misfired.
Both sides have denied blame for the strike.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said those killed in the bombing were patients, healthcare workers and families seeking refuge at the hospital.
He called on all States with influence to do everything in their power to bring an end to the situation and to hold those responsible to account.
"Hospitals are sacrosanct, and they must be protected at all cost," he said
The war in Gaza broke out on the 7th of October when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing hundreds of people.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden is expected to visit Israel on Wednesday.
Shortly after the attack at the Al Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza, Biden directed his national security team to continue gathering information about what exactly happened.
"The United States stands unequivocally for the protection of civilian life during conflict and we mourn the patients, medical staff and other innocents killed or wounded in this tragedy."
On Tuesday, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Malala Yousafzai took to Twitter to urge the Israeli government to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and reiterated the call for a ceasefire.
I’m horrified to see the bombing of al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza and unequivocally condemn it. I urge the Israeli government to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and reiterate the call for a ceasefire.
