Gunman kills at least 26 people in rural Texas church


A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a “military-style rifle” opened fire on parishioners at a small Baptist church in rural Texas killing at least 26 people on Sunday.

The New York Times reported that the gunman was identified as 26-year-old, Devin Patrick Kelley, who lived in New Braunfels, Texas.

He died shortly after the attack in the tiny town east of San Antonio.

According to the newspaper, Kelly started firing at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs not long after the Sunday morning service began at 11 a.m, US time.

He was reportedly armed with a Ruger military-style rifle.

His victims ranged in age from 5 to 72 and included a pregnant woman and the pastor’s teenage daughter.

The New York Time said it was the deadliest mass shooting in the state’s history.

At least 20 more were wounded.
