An Egyptian TV presenter has been sentenced to three years in jail after she discussed ways of becoming pregnant outside a conventional marriage, the BBC reports.
Doaa Saleh, a presenter on Al-Nahar TV, was charged and convicted of outraging public decency in Egypt when she asked if her viewers had considered having sex before marriage.
She also suggested women could marry briefly to have children before divorcing and that the husband could be paid for taking part in the marriage and donating his sperm.
In addition to the jail sentence, she was also fined 10,000 Egyptian pounds (nearly R9,000) for “threatening the fabric of Egyptian life”.
Salah was also suspended from her presenting job for three months.
The conservative Muslim North African country regards sex before marriage as unacceptable.
