DIRCO makes contact with embassy in France following terror attacks in Paris


The Department of International Relations and Co-operation is attempting to establish whether any South Africans were among the victims of the coordinated wave of terror attacks in Paris.

Its reported that more than 120 people were killed and more than 200 injured in six separate attacks at different locations in the city.

Eight of the attackers have been killed and its still unclear who is behind the incident.

A national State of Emergency has been declared, and the borders of France have been closed.

Spokesperson for the Department of International Relations Nelsen Kgwete says the department has been in contact with the South African embassy since the attacks .

They had established that embassy staff and the forward delegation to Cop21 were safe.

Dirco's emergency line (+27)351 1000, based in Pretoria, is also available for concerned friends and family to check on loved ones.
