Havana (dpa) - Only three people survived when an aircraft thatreportedly carried more than 100 people crashed near Havana airporton Friday, Cuba's official Granma newspaper reported.
The three were hospitalized in critical condition.
The Boeing 737 aircraft operated by the Mexican carrier Damojhcrashed in a field shortly after take-off, Cuba's official news agency Prensa Latina reported.
The plane carrying at least 104 people was travelling from Havana to the eastern city of Holguin.
Smoke was seen rising from the area.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel went to visit the site, and police and firefighters were also dispatched there.
Damojh had been hired to cover the route by Cuba's national airline Cubana de Aviacion, which established a hotline for family members of the victims.
The national airline has withdrawn several of its planes because of mechanical problems and subcontracted other airlines in recent months.
