An Air Algerie airplane traveling from Burkina Faso to Algiers with 110 passengers and 6 crew members on board has been reported missing by the Spanish company that operates the aircraft.
The plane, a Boeing Co. MD-83 model with flight code AH5017, was scheduled to land at 0510 GMT, but never reached its destination, according to the operator Swiftair.
Swiftair said in a statement that thus far, it had had no contact with the airplane.
Air Algerie says it lost contact with the passenger aircraft nearly an hour after take-off from Burkina Faso and that its initiated an "emergency plan" to search for the flight.
