Abuja (dpa) – At least 50 people are dead and 120 wounded after a army airstrike hit a refugee camp in the country’s north-east, aid organization Doctors without Borders (MSF) said Tuesday.
MSF said its staff are trying to provide first aid and evacuate the wounded from the camp, located in Rann near the Cameroon border.
“We are asking the authorities to put all measures in place in order to facilitate the emergency evacuation of wounded,” an MSF statement read.
Medical and surgical teams in Cameroon and Chad are ready to treat wounded patients, it added.
Major General Lucky Irabor confirmed that a strike took place, telling reporters that “dozens” of civilians were feared dead following an air raid that had targeted terrorist group Boko Haram.
