WESSA Alien Clearing 8 February

The WESSA Algoa Bay Branch February alien clearing will be this Saturday 08 February in Golf Road, Walmer from 09:00 – 11:00. We have been clearing this spot in the Baakens River Valley since November 2024 and it still needs a lot of work. We will again start from the straight stretch of Golf Road overlooking the valley. Access to this starting point will be easiest from either Short Road or 14^th Avenue. Turn out of Short Road into Club Road, which becomes Golf Road.

The main purpose of these clearings is to further stem the spread of the Rooikrans and other alien invaders in environmentally vulnerable areas. Invasive species still seriously threaten the sensitive indigenous bush. The objective is to eradicate these alien plants and give the local vegetation a good chance to recover and re-establish itself. Your commitment to these efforts is greatly appreciated. We will provide some tools, but please bring your own bow saw or lopper (if possible). Also bring a hat, water, sunscreen and normal garden gloves.
