The Animal Welfare Society PE 4th Annual Shelter and 1st ever Virtual Sleepover!

We look forward to welcoming you to share in an evening under the stars on Saturday, 28 November 2020! Each year, The Animal Welfare Society PE gives hundreds of homeless pets a second chance in finding a forever home. For many of those pets, AWS PE is the only home they've ever known. Sadly, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we had to postpone our April Sleepover event. We are seeing the impact of rising unemployment combined with the high cost of living at grassroots level at the animal shelter.

There has been an increase in animal surrenders and our veterinary clinic is inundated with animals from impoverished households for whom AWS PE is the only option for medical care. This places burden upon our precarious financial situation, but we refuse to give up and remain committed to helping vulnerable animals to the best of our abilities. This is where YOU can HELP! Our event has evolved to offer 2 options: • Traditional Shelter Sleepover with homeless pets in their enclosures at the Animal Welfare Society PE, Victoria Drive, Walmer; OR • Virtual Sleepover at home with your own pets in solidarity with homeless shelter pets.

Our Shelter Sleepover offers you a special experience by being able to share an enclosure with our shelter pets. Sleepover Participants are requested to pledge to raise R3 000 minimum per enclosure - donations can be sourced from anyone and everyone! The AWS PE Shelter Sleepover is a wonderful opportunity for you to show your compassion for animals and experience the love of our extended furry family at AWS PE! Entertainment is being arranged and bespoke Sleepover merchandising, as well as food and beverages will be on sale. Space is VERY LIMITED! (Note: COVID-19 Protocols will be in place and we regret that no children under the age of 16 years may sleepover for safety reasons)

The Virtual Sleepover invites you to share an evening camping at home with your own family pets. Host a virtual Sleepover in either your garden or living room! Virtual Participant entry is R200 per family/home as a minimum donation, but please bear the homeless animals in mind who are desperately waiting for homes, so please don’t stop there! Challenge other friends and families around the world to do the same and see how much FUN and FUND-ing you can raise!

As this is a Virtual Sleepover event, anyone from any location around the globe can take part! Space is UNLIMITED! (We invite you to share your experiences with us via our social media accounts on the evening) You will be assigned a Team Name (or Team Name of your choosing) and your participation acknowledged via our social media event. Sadly, despite all the animals re-homed since adoptions re-opened, our kennels in particular are overflowing and the adoption rate is dwindling. This places financial and emotional strain on us all and that is why we really need to fundraise harder than ever before with our Sleepover event to support the work we do for the vulnerable animals!
