Matilda the Musical

The Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society is proud to present the upcoming production- Matilda the Musical - which hits the stage on the 21st of September.

The show is a “who’s who” of local musical theatre luminaries. The legendary Robin Williams takes the director’s chair, SA’s Mr. Entertainment, Ian von Memerty is directing vocals, Alexander Road High School’s music maestro Dario Broccardo is Musical Director and up and coming Choreographer Darren Rockman will work his magic under the mentorship of Chireen Ferreira. Greg Everard will swop his director’s chair for a hammer to play the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull.

Matilda the Musical is based on the 1988 children's novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. It was adapted by Dennis Kelly, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, and directed for the stage by Matthew Warchus. The musical's narrative centres on Matilda, a precocious 5-year-old girl with the gift of telekinesis, who loves reading, overcomes obstacles caused by her family and school and helps her teacher to reclaim her life.
