Raising money on a mountain bike for Aurora

The Buco Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike race takes place on Sunday 24 September.

Its regarded as one of the biggest single-day mountain bike races in the country with some 4500 riders tackling the 95 kilometre route from Uniondale to Knysna through the Outeniqua Mountains.

AlgoaFM is proud to be the media sponsor this year of 17 local riders who are tackling the 2017 edition of the Karoo to Coast to raise funds for the Aurora Special Care Centre in Port Elizabeth.

The fundraiser was put together by Port Elizabeth businessmen Niel van Vuuren and Barry Allen – who has close family ties to Aurora.

Raffle tickets, at just R20 each and in aid of this fundraising initiative, can still be purchased from Aurora in Walmer Downs or at Sumatran Coffee in Main Road Walmer, Port Elizabeth.

AlgoaFM Deputy News Editor and Sports Editor Neil Bisseker will be riding this year’s Karoo to Coast in aid of the Aurora fundraiser.

“I experienced this amazing race for the first time last year,” said Bisseker, “When Barry and Niel asked me to be part of a charity ride I did not hesitate to become involved. I have so much admiration for the incredible work being done at Aurora and I must just thank everyone for their generosity in buying so many raffle tickets. We’ve been able to raise a substantial amount of money for Aurora. Now its time to hop on the bike and enjoy the wonderful hospitality that is legendary at the Karoo to Coast.”
