The 90-year-old Canadian star who played Captain Kirk in the iconic 1960s TV series, Star Trek, is part of a four-person crew aboard a Blue Origin rocket that blasts off from the Texas desert today October 13.
As Captain Kirk, his mission was "to boldly go where no man had gone before", and today he will go down in history as the first nonagenarian to travel to the edge of space.
The invitation to make the trip came via Amazon billionaire George Bizos who is an avid Star Trek fan.
