Wentworth Miller hopes to lead the way for gay actors

Actor Wentworth Miller hopes his return to Prison Break will change people?s minds about gay men taking on leading roles. The handsome star first wowed audiences as Michael Scofield in the Golden Globe-nominated drama nine years ago, though the show was taken off the air in 2009. Wentworth and co-stars Dominic Purcell and Sarah Wayne Callies will be back on air in the new year (17), and as well as a lot changing in the TV?s show?s narrative, there have also been big changes for Wentworth too. He came out in 2013, and has since embraced his status as a gay celebrity.

?Just by being an openly gay man who is a regular on a show that is received well in the world ? it has the potential to impact people and maybe change a few minds,? he enthused to British newspaper Metro. Wentworth was talking at the recent Attitude Awards, held in London by gay magazine Attitude. The event fell on World Mental Health Day (10Oct16). ?I?m confident there are very few people that don?t have some sort of mental health issue,? Wentworth said. ?It?s important that we start talking more freely about what is true for all of us.?

Stars from all walks of showbiz turned up to celebrate the awards bash, including David Furnish, Kelly Brook and Emma Bunton. Emma?s Spice Girls bandmate Geri Horner was also there, showing off her baby bump for the first time. ?There is no way we could ever replace Sporty (Mel C) or Posh (Victoria Beckham), they are one of a kind,? Geri said of her upcoming gigs with Spice Girls Emma and Mel B. ?However I do want to share that there is a new member if out Spice family. There is one here,? she added pointing to her stomach.
