Elsa Joubert’s acclaimed novel Die swerfjare van Poppie Nongema has been made into a movie and will screen in cinemas across South Africa in January of next year.
Elsa’s novel of the true-life story of an ordinary woman in extraordinary circumstances has been translated into 13 different languages and was also staged as a drama.
Set in 1970’s apartheid-era South Africa, it is the moving story of one woman’s resilience in the face of the inhumane government of the day.
The film directed by Christiaan Olwagen stars Clementine Mosimane, Nomsa Nene, Anna-Mart van der Merwe and Chris Gxalaba.
