South African film ‘Stam’ has been picked to compete in the 18th annual Tofifest International Film Festival in Poland.
The film, written and directed by Louw Venter, and produced by the team behind the multi-award winners ‘Inxeba’ and ‘This is not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection’, also recently won the award for Best South African Film at the Durban International Film Festival.
The film is described as an “authentic” glimpse into the lives of four vastly different characters who live on the fringes of society in Cape Town.
There’s Chantal, a fugitive addict, Dawid, a frustrated cop with many ghosts from the past, Samiah, a naïve young nurse and Aphiwe, an up-and-coming art director in a failing relationship. They are all brought together one night - a night in which their lives are irrevocably changed.
Esteemed critic Leon van Nierop has described the movie as “uniquely Afrikaans and unpredictable – a real humdinger.”
