South Africa’s biggest awards night in film and television is gearing up to entertain its socially distant audience – stay home and cheer on your favorite Mzansi stars this weekend, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd May.
The 15th annual SAFTAS will celebrate the talent, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, who kept us entertained in what will undoubtedly go down as one of the most challenging years in the history of mankind.
It was a testing time for the entertainment industry, but creative minds across South Africa went to extraordinary lengths to deliver by adapting their work around the pandemic restrictions.
Being forced to stay at home, quality entertainment was of the utmost importance to a captive SA audience and Mzansi’s artists did not disappoint – hence the theme of this year’s SAFTAS - Still Shining.
For the first time ever this year, the SAFTAS will be live-streaming their Craft Awards section, which celebrates the backstage talent. This year’s red carpet will also be streamed on YouTube. While the 2-hour live main awards ceremony, will air on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161), and combine live and recorded elements.
Another first is Netflix being able to enter original shows and series, the streaming giant has been nominated for 45 SAFTA awards.
Who is lined up to entertain you in the comfort of your home?
