WATCH: Joe Exotic speaks out from prison

Joe Exotic, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, the former big cat breeder and zoo owner who is currently serving a 22-year-sentence at a Federal State prison has spoken about his newfound fame for the first time.

Exotic was jailed for his role in a 2017 murder-for-hire scheme to kill prominent animal rights activist, Carole Baskin,  nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act and eight counts of falsifying wildlife records for "interstate" transaction.

The true-crime docu-series saw viewers transfixed by the seemingly unbelievable unfolding of events that were filmed over a five year period and which eventually led to Exotic's arrest and subsequent incarceration.

In the clip 57 year old Exotic, sporting a now extremely dark mullet bemoans the fact that he cannot enjoy his newfound fame saying, "You know it would be nice if I could actually see me being famous out there but I've seen these same four walls for a year and a half now."

He also tells his fans that he is “done with the Carole Baskin saga. It's now time to turn the tables, and Joe get out of jail a free man and exonerated from all these charges (sic)."

Watch the clip – it seems old Joe Exotic has had a change of heart and now knows what it feels like to live a life behind bars. Will he become a champion in the fight to stop big cat breeding and open cages everywhere or is he just looking out for himself?

With hours and hours of unseen footage in their possession, it’s not surprising that Netflix is currently working on an eighth episode. The series has taken the world by storm and smashed viewership records for the streaming giant. According to data from Nielsen it was watched by 34.3 million unique viewers in its first 10 days of release in the US.
