Hollywood is heading for a complete shutdown as an estimated 160,000 actors and performers are expected to take part in a strike for better wages, protection against the "rise of the streaming ecosystem" and the threat that artificial intelligence poses to "creative professions."
They will be joining thousands of writers who have already been on strike and picketing outside the Netflix building in Hollywood for two months now.
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher released a statement saying: “ After more than four weeks of negotiations, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) — the entity that represents major studios and streamers, including Amazon, Apple, Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros Discovery — remains unwilling to offer a fair deal on the key issues that you told us are important to you. Because of this, we've called for a meeting with our National Board this morning to vote on a strike order."
This "fiery" speech by Drescher from the press conference confirming their intention to strike is fast going viral. It will bring Hollywood to its knees.
This dual strike would be the first in 63 years and will see the entertainment industry grind to a complete halt almost immediately.
