Billed as a coming of age mystery drama, this much-anticipated series is set to launch globally next week Wednesday. Directed by South Africa's award-winning Nosipho Dumisa, it will introduce a host of fresh young local talent to a global audience. And we are proud to share the news that one of the lead actors about to be launched onto this 'global stage', comes from our neck of the woods.
Originally from the Eastern Cape village of Cala, Ama Qamata plays the lead role of 16-year-old Puleng Khumalo, a teenager who is on a mission to uncover the truth about the cold case of her older sister who was never found after being abducted at birth.
Qamata's first acting role was as Naledi in the SABC1 sitcom My Perfect Family in 2016. The talented youngster then went on to have a recurring role as Thandi in the e.tv soap opera, Rhythm City, in 2018. At 21 years of age, she is certainly no stranger to the small screen, having also played the starring role of Buhle in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Gomora.
Last year saw her nabbing the role of Puleng Khumalo, undoubtedly her biggest part to date. It is one of two leading roles in this new drama series, Blood and Water, the other leading role of Fikile “Fiks” Bhele is played by newcomer Khosi Ngema.
In addition to the female leads Thabang Molaba playing Karabo ‘KB’ Molapo, Wade is played by Dillon Windvogel while Natasha Thahane (Skeem Saam, The Queen, Lockdown) takes on the role of Wendy Dlamini.
Joining the cast of fresh new faces are some of South Africa's most seasoned actors in the form of Gail Mabalane (The Road, The Wild), Sello Maake (The River, Scandal, Generations), Arno Greef (Binnelanders), Ryle De Morny (Top Billing), Getmore Sithole (Scandal), Xolile Tshabalala (High Rollers), Sandi Schultz (Binnelanders), Monique Rockman (Nommer 37) and Cindy Mahlangu (The Herd).
Blood & Water is produced by Gambit Films with Daryne Joshua & Travis Taute as co-directors and writers, and Simon Beesley as the lead editor.
