The trailer has dropped for the film documenting Cher’s incredible journey to help rescue and relocate an elephant that had been living alone in a Pakistani zoo for 9 years.
All previous attempts to save the elephant from a life of abject misery had failed until Cher stepped in and used her star status to make the rescue of Kavaan a reality. In her attempt at making this happen Cher founded the Free the Wild movement.
The documentary will premiere on April 22nd on Paramount+ before airing on the Smithsonian Channel on May 19th.
Kavaan had languished in the zoo in the capital of Islamabad for 35 years and was finally freed in September 2020 to be transported to a better life. Four months earlier, Pakistan's High Court had forced the Marghazar Zoo where Kaavan had been living to close due to its deplorable conditions. He was dubbed the "world's loneliest elephant" by activists after the loss of his fellow female elephant nine years ago.
Through years of research scientists agree that elephants are capable of complex thought, and of experiencing feelings of joy, anger, grief, compassion, and love.
