South Africa’s Arnold Vosloo has returned to his home country for the screening of the movie Griekwastad in which he stars. Griekwastad is part of the line up of local movies for the 2019 kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival which is happening in Cape Town this month.
Griekwastad tells the story of the shocking events of 2012 when Deon (44) and Christel Steenkamp (43), and their daughter, Marthella (14) were brutally murdered on their farm in Naauwhoek. Marthella was also raped prior to being killed. Two years later, after a lengthy trial amidst intense global media attention, Don Steenkamp, their son who was 15 at the time, was found guilty of murdering his family.
Vosloo plays the leading role of Colonel Dick De Waal, the investigating officer on the case. This is Vosloo’s first Afrikaans film in more than 30 years.
