Veteran actor Treat Williams dies in tragic accident

The star of the film Hair and popular television series Everwood, has died aged 71 after being involved in a  motorcycle accident.

Williams' agent  Barry McPherson has released a statement to the media confirming his death on Monday afternoon after a car cut him off as he was making a turn on his motorcycle in Vermont.

The Vermont State Police is currently investigating the crash between an SUV and Treat who suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

According to their report, “ Williams was unable to avoid a collision and was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead”.

The investigation into the crash is in its early stages, it is believed the driver of the car involved in the collision was turning and didn't see Williams' bike. The SUV’s driver received minor injuries and wasn’t hospitalized. Williams was reported to have been wearing a helmet.

In a career that spanned six decades, Williams was best known for playing a widowed New York City neurosurgeon who moves his family to Colorado to start over on the WB series Everwood. Williams also had a recurring role as Lenny Ross on the TV show Blue Bloods. His stage appearances included Broadway shows, including Grease and Pirates of Penzance.

He was most recently seen on the popular Netflix drama Chesapeake Shores.

Williams is survived by his wife actress Pam Van Sant and their two children Gille and Ellie.
