Usher reveals he planned to record with Amy Winehouse before her death

Usher has revealed that he was planning to work with Amy Winehouse before she passed away last year.

The rapper, who released his new album 'Looking 4 Myself' on Monday (June 11), told MTV News that he approached her producer Salaam Remi about working together, but never actually managed to make it into the studio with the singer.

He said of this: "There was few a conversations that took place, but we never quite made it to it. I would have loved it. It could have been one of the most incredible records ever. A voice like that comes once in a lifetime.''

The rapper added that he had bumped into the singer in London once and made plans to meet up again, but the 'Back To Black' singer didn't show up. He added: "'Before you know it we talked and exchanged information and I invited her to a show and she didn't come."

'Looking 4 Myself' is the former teen heartthrob's seventh full length effort, features collaborations with N.E.R.D's Pharrell Williams, Rick Ross and Empire Of The Sun's Luke Steele. He said: "Empire Of The Sun I thought, 'Man what an incredible sound', there was something just fresh about it. And when we started working on 'Looking 4 Myself' - in fact, the week that I wrote and produced the record, it was right after we’d come back from Coachella. And having gone to Coachella in California, it really kind of gave us an opportunity to have a restart, because that was certainly a different experience for me."

He continued: "I said, 'I love the feeling that we have here and the different styles of music, let’s find a way to make an album that works everywhere, that works here, works for my fans, works for the classic audience, works for my pop audience, and that's why you feel you're hearing this eclectic mixture of music'."
