This past Friday thrill-seekers flocked to the reopening of Universal's Orlando Theme Park which has been closed for more than two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Sky News major theme parks in the US are beginning to follow in the footsteps of Shanghai Disneyland by opening up for business again but with strict safety measures in place. These measures include plenty of hand sanitiser stations and temperature checks for guests and staff alike.
Guests are required to wear masks on every ride except for water rides like Jurassic Park River Adventure. Sky News reported that “Despite the restrictions, one benefit for those in attendance was that the limited capacity being enforced made for quicker queues and less crowded walkways. There are also said to be increased cleaning and disinfection procedures, and guests are encouraged to use their smartphones to order food and reserve times on rides.”
Universal's local rivals will soon reopen with similar rules in place as Florida looks to get its vital tourism industry back on track despite hundreds of coronavirus cases still being recorded every day.
Sky News reports that SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are set to reopen on 11 June, but Walt Disney World won't be back until next month while Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will reopen on 11 July, followed a few days later by Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
Theme parks are set to open in the UK on the 4th of July.
