TV actors back at work

Roughly 1.5 million South Africans return to work this morning as we move from level 5 to level 4 lockdown regulations, and included in that workforce is the cast and crew of the hit TV series The Queen.

The national lockdown forced production houses to halt shooting as part of the strict lockdown measures. It had been widely reported that, as was the case with many other local productions, there was a possibility of The Queen running out of new episodes to flight.

However, just in time, level 4 was introduced which allows production houses to return to work but under extremely strict health and safety regulations. Like any other ‘business', they will have to adhere to stringent measures as laid out by the OHS ( Occupational Health and Safety) to continue to contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Actor Vuyolwethu Ngcukana who plays Schumacher on The Queen has already tweeted that he left his permit at home saying, “Forgot my work permit at home, this is gonna take some getting use to.”

The popular telenovela is produced by Ferguson Films and premiered on Mzansi Magic in August 2016. At this year’s virtual SAFTA awards, The Queen’s Loyiso Macdonald picked up the gong for best-supporting actor.
