Tributes pour in for legendary singer Lance James

From the high powered world of the music industry to his many fans, Lance James was clearly loved as much for his humility as he was for his immense talent. Tributes have been pouring in on Facebook for the hugely popular Afrikaans singer.

Born on the 18th July 1938, he passed away Monday after what has been described by his agent Lydia Winchester as a long-term illness. Winchester said James was surrounded by close friends and family in his last moments.

Affectionately known as ‘Big Daddy' he will always be remembered for his hits like Dankie, How Groot is U and Don’t let the old man in, which he recorded in April of last year. In addition to his singing career, James became a presenter on Springbok Radio in 1954 and was to remain one of their most popular announcers until 1985.

Just last year he released a memoir titled  "Lance James and Friends", a limited Souvenir edition.

A great friend of many stations across South Africa, no less Algoa FM, he was fondly remembered on social media in a touching tribute by Lance Du Plessis.

May you rest in peace Lance James.
