Tributes pour in for legendary Jeremy Mansfield

The passing of iconic radio man Jeremy Mansfield has ignited an outpouring of love, gratitude, and respect for the ‘larger than life’ broadcaster.

From industry peers and his huge fan base, tributes have flooded every social media platform since the announcement of his death.

They included messages from the team at Carte Blanche , Darren 'Whackhead' Simpson, and Mark Pilgrim, who is fighting his own battle with cancer.

Mansfield died after battling stage four liver cancer, his death was confirmed by a close friend and former colleague, Samantha Cowen, in a statement on Facebook on Monday morning.

She wrote: "This morning a light went out in the world. Jeremy Mansfield passed away just before dawn. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends and boundless love."

While accolades for his brilliant career are many, Mansfield, will also be remembered for the caring legacy that he left behind – he used his public platform tirelessly to assist those less fortunate than himself, he was also, together with his wife, an animal rights activist.

Mansfield was responsible for establishing The Christmas Wish:, an annual charity drive aimed at assisting people around South Africa to pay school fees, covering people's financial expenses, paying for surgeries and hospital expenses and even supplying homes. Then there was Hear for Life Trust: the Hear for Life Trust was set up to assist in providing cochlea implants to those who could not otherwise afford the procedure.

He was also a patron, of The Sunflower Fund and an Ambassador of Hope for them, and, an Honorary Member of the animal welfare group the NSPCA.

Mansfield was once personally thanked by former president Nelson Mandela for his charity work which raised well over R12 million for the needy.
