It has been reported on TimesLive that several Afrikaans musicians are coming out in support of Steve Hofmeyr by agreeing to perform at a tribute concert for him later in the year.
The Dankie Steve- Koncert, is scheduled to take place at the VoortrekkerMonument’s’ Amfi Restaurant in Pretoria on September 5. It is being organised by the Federasie vir Afrikaanse Kultuurvereniginge (FAK), an Afrikaans language and cultural organisation. According to the organisers, the evening is to be a celebration of Steve's 30-year music career and will feature Steve as well as other artists such as, Demi Lee Moore, Monique Steyn, Jak de Priester, Monique Steyn, Pieter Smith and Dewald Wasserfall.
As stated in the TimesLive article, the organisers told the Pretoria East Rekord that they would not let politics halt Steve's performance at their show. FAK’s managing director was reported as saying "It would be a pity if individuals and organisations' prescriptive political agendas are the reason why the FAK should not give Steve recognition for his work in support of Afrikaans music over decades. Steve is a giant in the Afrikaans music industry and, with good reason, one of the most popular Afrikaans singers to date,.”
