This is the prediction of Mark Edward John Woolhouse OBE, a professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the Usher Institute in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.
Dubbing it ‘Disease X’, the leading scientist said he has called for authorities to be aware of a whole range of other viruses.
He told the Daily Mail that every year or two, scientists are discovering one or two viruses that are transmissible to humans and the rate has been constant for more than 50 years.
He said it is a matter of when the next pandemic will hit, not if.
