Tom Hanks has confessed he is not a good person to rely on in an emergency. The 60-year-old Academy Award winning actor is receiving critical praise for his work in biographical drama Sully, a film about real life pilot Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who saved 155 people in January, 2009 when his aircraft's engines failed by successfully crash landing in the Hudson River off Manhattan, New York City.
But even though he is known for playing heroes onscreen, should Tom be in the vicinity when someone is literally facing a life or death situation, do not expect him to be very helpful.?I was in a gym and a woman collapsed," he recalled to UK newspaper The Mirror. "I froze, a deer-in-the-headlights, I didn?t know what to do. I just stood there."Luckily she was okay and when she stood up she said, ?Well thanks, Tom Hanks?.?The Forrest Gump star admits his wife Rita Wilson is the strong one in their marriage.?All I can do is bow down before the courage of my wife," he noted before explaining why his nearly three decade-long union with Rita is still going strong. ?People say, ?Jeez, it must be hard to stay married in showbusiness," he added.
?I think it?s hard to stay married anywhere, but if you marry the right person, it might work out. We give each other a natural sense of support for whatever the other wants to pursue.?Our marriage doesn?t require vast work. We have been married 28 years and dig each other a lot."However, Tom reveals there was a chance he and Rita, who he has known since high school, may not have tied the knot at all.?I still can?t believe we were in high school together and I wouldn?t have had the guts to talk to Rita Wilson and she has finally confessed she wouldn?t have given me the time of day if I had," he said.
