No alcohol, no autograph seeking, and definitely no hugging! These are some of the strict rules revealed by the International Olympic Committee ahead of next month’s Olympic Games.
The five parties, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the Government of Japan (GoJ), have all agreed that these spectator limits must be enforced for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
In a statement released on their website they stated that in light of the government's restrictions on public events, the spectator limit for the Olympic Games will be set at "50 percent of venue capacity, up to a maximum of 10,000 people" at all venues.
Spectators will need to clear several antivirus requirements, including temperature checks and mask-wearing, just to get into venues.
Once inside, they will not be allowed to cheer or make any physical contact with another spectator. Asking athletes for autographs is another big no-no, as is any form of cheering. or hand waving. Alcohol is strictly prohibited.
These tough restrictions will no doubt put a damper on the festive atmosphere that is part and parcel of any sporting gathering.
Athletes will also face tough restrictions including daily testing and a ban on travel except between venues and the Olympic Village.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for July 23rd.
