TikTok introduces new safety measures for teens


The Heads of Safety and Privacy at the video-sharing social networking service have been hard at work furthering their commitment to safeguarding teens on TikTok.

The social media platform used to make a variety of short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy, and education, is hugely popular with the 13 to 17-year-old age group.

As part of their ongoing efforts to protect the youth in this age category, they recently introduced a new set of proactive protection measures that will continue to roll out globally over the coming months.

Introduced by Alexandra Evans, Head of Child Safety Public Policy, and Aruna Sharma, Global Head of Privacy, the new changes will affect: Direct Messaging privacy settings, deciding who can watch their videos, choosing who can download their public videos, and a mindful approach to push notifications
