The fitness guru and star of the hit sitcom series, Three’s Company, has died at the age of 76 following a battle with breast cancer.

According to a statement from her spokesperson R. Couri Hay, "Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of 15 October."

"Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband, Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on 16 October. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly."

Somers was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer in April 2000 and had a lumpectomy to remove the cancer followed by radiation therapy. In July 2023 she announced on social media that the cancer had returned.

Somers found fame as Chrissy Snow on the popular 1970s sitcom and went on to build a multimillion-dollar fitness empire, appearing in commercials for the Thighmaster and ButtMaster exercise equipment as well as releasing self-help books on topics ranging from menopause to wellness and weight loss. She launched her own beauty brand, Suzanne Organics, in 2019.

May you RIP Suzanne Somers.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women of all races, with a lifetime risk of one in 27 in South Africa, according to the 2019 National Cancer Registry (NCR).

While cancer-related organisations and initiatives strive to educate the public about the importance of regular breast self-examinations, mammograms, and clinical check-ups, breast cancer awareness remains a challenge.
