The new year will kick off on Mzansi Magic with a new telenovela, Gqeberha: The Empire, starting on 16 January 2023.
Shot entirely in the Eastern Cape, polygamy is the name of the game in this new series that features an impressive cast and gripping storylines.
The telenovela will be replacing The Queen, which comes to an end after its seventh season. Gqeberha: The Empire is the first Mzansi Magic telenovela filmed entirely in the Eastern Cape and the cast includes: Zikhona Sodlaka (The Wife, Blood Psalms); Zandile Msutwana (Grootboom & Sons, The Queen); and Mbulelo Grootboom (Wounds, Suidooster).
Luzuko Mxenge (played by Grootboom) is a successful businessman. He is married to three different yet strong women: Bulelwa (Sodlaka), Zimkhita (Msutwana), and Nozuko (Bikitsha). What more could he want? Another wife, for starters.
According to Mzansi Magic, the telenovela follows themes of love, betrayal, polygamy, and jealousy, through the lens of characters viewers will be able to relate to.
